A serious study shows that ketchup can be a good alternative to traditional thermal pastes. Other exotic thermal pastes have been tested too: cheese, potato, toothpaste. The toothpaste is one of the worst with potato and cheese. For each thermal compound, a 30 Watts GPU (a Radeon R7 240) has been tortured during 5 minutes with FurMark.
Here are some results:
– Arctic MX4: 49°C (real thermal paste)
– Corsair TM30: 54°C (real thermal paste)
– ketchup: 71°C
– toothpaste: 90°C
– potato: 105°C
– cheese slice: 105°C
The Radeon R7 240 is a small GPU with low power consumption. Would be fun to see the same test with a Radeon RX 7900 or a GeForce RTX 40…
